A boundless steppe scorched by the sun. It is hot and windy. This is Altai. Not long ago, strings of camels were walking through these places in the wavering haze of the sultry air. They carried salt, without which not a single lunch, breakfast or dinner could be done. Now, instead of camels, trains run along the railroad tracks, and there is the same salt in the carriages.

The railroad tracks go straight into the lake. In the distance one can see some strange working unit. The water is crimson. It feels like this is another reality. Nature, ecology, and humanity. How do they affect each other? How do nature and ecology change from human activity? How do people survive in new conditions? This is what our film is about.

Elephants are one of the oldest animals on Earth; they are as old as humanity. In Asia people have been paying truly divine honors to elephants since time immemorial. Elephants play the most important role in Eastern religions, whether it be Hinduism or Buddhism. Ancient armies which had war elephants in their ranks were considered invincible. For the Buddhists, the elephant is a sacred symbol of spiritual knowledge, patience, moderation and self-control. They are participants of most of the religious rites in Asia. But very often worship and veneration have nothing to do with the reality. Elephants are used in heavy work, and they are forced out of their traditional habitats, fired and poisoned. Elephants are defenseless against the onslaught of the civilization.
