Over 15 years more than 2000 films from 78 countries took part in the competition program of the festival «People and Environment»
Various meetings and discussions with the authors, workshops of experienced documentalists, panel discussions, public events are traditionally held in the framework of the festival.
On the festival seven awards are presented. They are Grand Prix, Baikal Award for the acuteness of the presented issue, Best Documentary Film, Best Popular-Science Film, Best Fulldome film, Award of the Youth Juri and the Media, there is also a number of other awards like ones from state, non-profit, educational and other organizations, and personal awards.

Meyerhold. Evgeniy shot nine documentaries that won almost every national award. He directs music videos, TV ads, series; also directeda theater play “Pavlik is my God”,which was nominated for the Golden Mask.Won Grand Prize forhis theater play “Kolyada-plays” in 2011.

One of the founders (1990) and an activist of environmental NGO “Baikal Wave”. Cooperates with the film festival “People and environment” form the very beginning. For many years has been a member of the jury of the Festival as an environmental social activist. Worked as a teacher in a Linguistic Institute and after that in a department of foreign languages of Irkutsk Scientific Centre.
The adviser of the mayor of Irkutsk, a Scientific director of the Irkutsk Botanicalgarden, Candidate in Science (Biology); chairmanof the Public chamber of Irkutsk of the thirdconvocation, ex-chairman of the InternationalNetwork of Botanical Gardens of Eastern Asia, lifemember of the International Dendrological Society;author of more than 150 scientific articles andbooks on ecology, biology, botanics.
Baikal International Festival of Popular-Science and Documentary Films "People and Environment" named after V.G. Rasputin has finished receiving contest applications. In total the organizing committee received 408 works from 71 countries of the world. 33 works were presented by the Russian authors, other films came from Germany, France, The Republic of South Africa, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Nepal, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries. The Selection Committee will choose the best of the submitted works, and viewers will see them at the Festival this autumn.
The films of Baikal International Festival “People and Environment” n.a. V. Rasputin were screened in the children’s cinema “Mechta” in Krasnoyarsk in the framework of The Year of Ecology in Russia.
We would like to invite you to take part in the XVIth Baikal International Festival of Documentary and Popular-Science Films "People and Environment" that will take place in the city of Irkutsk on the 5th-9th of October 2017.
61 films were screened in «Dom Kino» and «Zvezdny» cinemas, Irkutsk Planetarium, «Belaya Vorona» cinema-cafe and Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library n.a. I.I. Molchanov-Sibirsky. Roughly about 9000 viewers visited film shows during those days. As part of a competition programme several fulldome popular-science films were shown. They were created specially for screening at planetariums with dome covering the whole venue.
The competitive programme of documentary and popular science films that will be aspiring to win the grand prix of the film festival “People and Environment” has been formed. This year 17 films including fulldomes participate in the competition.
The selectors of the festival have watched nearly 400 films, which is one hundred more than they had last year. The members of the selection committee have been Olga Krasnoyarova (candidate of art history, member of Russian Filmmakers Union), Mikhail Rozhanskiy (Scientific director of the Centre for Independent Social Research and Education), Kirill Dimov (cinematographer of “Vostochno-Sibirskaya studio of documentaries”), Maria Kelchevskaya (director of Irkutsk Film Foundation) and Yulia Yakimova (programme manager of the festival).
